The light colored periphery is a mixture of cortical bundles, leaf traces, ramentum and odd club shaped structures (the function of which is unknown.) In other words, it is the entire stem. The pith, primary rays and xylem sectors are really well defined and there is well preserved tracheids in some of the xylem sectors.
