Remondite & Astrophyllite-
Mt. Saint-Hilaire, Rouville County, Quebec, Canada
6 cm x 5 cm
Remondite is a very rare mineral named after Physicist Dr. Guy Rémond, physicist, Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières, Orléans, France, for his work on the physics of minerals, and the predominance of
cerium over other rare-earth elements in the composition. Remondite is also mildly radioactive, ( gold blade on upper left of specimen).
Astrophyllite is a very rare, brown to golden-yellow hydrous potassium iron titanium silicate mineral. Astrophyllite typically forms as bladed, radiating stellate aggregates. It is this crystal habit that gives astrophyllite its name, from the Greek words astron meaning “star” and phyllon meaning “leaf”.
